What People Say About BWC — All New 2008 Stories
At the beginning of the year a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to train to run a 5K with her.
I have never been a runner; in fact, it has always been my least favorite exercise.
But, because I was so interested in getting into shape after having my second baby (born on Christmas Eve), I decided to give it a go.
Our training routine was interrupted early on as a result of many things—I was struck by a gall bladder attack and require surgery in the middle of training.
On the same day as my attack, my best friend, ended up in a coma after complications due to a surgery she had.
I also ended up needing another surgery unexpectedly.
My training partner also had some complications, so our training ended up minimal at best.
But, we both were determined to stick it out and at least attempt our first 5K.
My friend, who is still recovering from her surgery complications, has always been an inspiration to me in terms of health and athleticism, so I felt that I owed it to both her and myself to stick with this.
I really thought that after I was done with the race I would have wiped my hands clean of running, but it was so invigorating that I cannot wait to try my next 5K!

I wanted to let you know this was the first time I ran this race and I really, really enjoyed it. I could definitely tell how hard everyone worked to put the event together. It was well organized, and all of the event staff and volunteers were extremely friendly. I was also greatly inspired by the women who ran and how hard they work to stay fit and healthy. I was really glad that I brought my 10-year-old daughter with me. It was a great bonding experience for us and it was wonderful for her to see all the hardworking women. I can't wait for next year's run. — Jenn Myers
This was my fourth time running the 5K and my daughter's third time running the Kids Fun Run.
This year's race fell on what would have been my niece's 15th birthday; she passed away when she was only 9.
I was so happy that my mother, sister and sister-in-law decided to run with me this year in memory of our precious angel who was taken from us too soon.
It was a WONDERFUL day of smiles and tears, and we plan to be back year after year.
The BWC was my very first race ever back in 2005 and was a big part in getting me running.
Thanks for doing such a great race for women.
— Jennifer LeBrun
I want to thank you so very, very much for helping me realize a long-held goal. Two months ago I could not run a quarter of the Goucher track. Yesterday I ran a 5K. I still do not believe I did it. I am very proud of myself and intend this to be just the start. Thanks to you and the BWC for the confidence and training. — Elin Gursky TOP OF PAGE

I loved this race and felt there was a real spirit of community amongst the women running, the volunteers, and the families that came to see them run. I was hit in February of 2007 after moving here from the West Coast and have been unable to run like I used to. I joined a training group with my cousin through Charm City Run to train for this race because I wanted to get back into running. This race was great for all levels and was a motivating experience to do more races and come back next year. I would encourage anyone to come out and do the same! — Raenell Rafferty TOP OF PAGE

I took part in the training and ran the race in 2007, never knowing that this year I would be running the race as a cancer survior. Prior to my surgery in March, I selected the BWC as my 'goal' race. It seemed appropriate. I'm looking forward to next year! — Mindy TOP OF PAGE
