The Medstar Baltimore Women's Classic 5K PRESENTED BY NEW BALANCE benefits NONPROFITS RUN BY WOMEN, FOR WOMEN.

The House of Ruth Maryland leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.

Founded in 1977, House of Ruth Maryland is a nationally recognized leader in ending intimate partner violence, confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear. This past year, House of Ruth Maryland provided comprehensive services to over 11,000 survivors—including shelter, a 24-hour hotline, legal advocacy, counseling, childcare, and prevention education—while holding those who cause harm accountable through an Abuse Intervention Program, the Gateway Project. If you or someone you know is experiencing intimate partner violence, please call 410-889-7884.

In November 1998 a new 84-bed shelter and 6 apartment transitional housing, featuring expanded services and programs, opened. The new shelter has a holistic health and wellness program, including an on-site health clinic staffed by the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.

Today, House of Ruth Maryland is recognized as one of the nation’s most comprehensive domestic violence centers and has a staff of more than ninety. Our voluntary leadership consists of a thirty-member Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee.

This year, the Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K is also proud to support Soles for Souls.

Soles for Souls is a non profit that primarily supports women who have experienced pregnancy loss due to miscarriage. Using movement, sound and collaboration as its three pillars of healing the organization fosters hope.

  • Sound: Storytelling, community grief conversations, sound bath healing, referrals to therapy, music and more.

  • Movement: Walk, jog, run teams at select races, yoga, access to run coach programming, access and referrals to collaborative movement experiences.

  • Collaboration: Starting with the mom and her identified community. Soles for Souls believes everyone has someone in their community that has experienced pregnancy loss due to miscarriage or another form of loss. With this belief, we encourage community members to support the mom, family, community and eachother after such a tragedy. Soles for Souls aims to partner with local service providers, community partners and healthcare professionals to receive referrals and offer services to women and families.

Soles for Souls aims to offer niche services including: family planning item removal & storage, recovery registry, health meal planning, hydration services, doula support, appointment buddies, art therapy and more.
